There is a lot of “talk” about what will happen in 2012.

I have watched some documentaries, read books on Ancient Civilizations, lots of googling and nothing is  100% clear about what (if anything) will happen, the only thing I can say for sure is that global disaster has struck the earth in the past (possibly 4 times). There are many stories and evidence of  ”Great Floods” through out human history that tell of a great flood that wiped out most of humanity the most recent one being the story of Noah’s Ark, which is copied from the “Epic of Gilgamesh”

The Epic of Gilgamesh is, perhaps, the oldest written story on Earth. It comes to us from Ancient Sumeria, and was originally written on 12 clay tablets in cunieform script. It is about the adventures of the historical King of Uruk (somewhere between 2750 and 2500 BCE).

The 2012 end of the world theory has come from the Mayan Calender.

Notably, the widely held belief that time operates in great cycles which witness recurrent creations and destructions of the world. According to the Maya, the Current great cycle began in darkness on 4 Ahau 8 Cumku a date corrisponding to 13th August 3114 BC. The cycle will come to an end  amid global destruction on 4 Ahau 3 Kankin 23/12/2012 (5125 years)

Before we go any further about the Mayan Calender, something you must know is that this is not really a “Mayan Calender” . Their time keeping, star mapping and other technologies & knowledge was actually passed down to them from an older and much more advanced civilisation called the “Olmecs” who were around approx 1000 years before the Mayans.

The Mayan Calender is extremely accurate and more advance then our current calender system. It has been 100% predicting lunar and solar eclipses and other cosmic events which we have not been able to predict until the 19th & 20th centuries!

It is also stated that their will be a Pole shift in 2012 which will cause Earth Quakes, Volcanoes and Floods (just like in the movie).

Well the Magnetic Poles shift a little every year, this is normal. However the rate at which the poles are shifting is increasing, in the early 1900′s the Poles Shifted approx 10km’s every year, now it is accelerating at 40km per years which will eventually lead us to Pole Flip.

They’ve also learned what happens during a magnetic flip. Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, and during that time–contrary to popular belief–the magnetic field does not vanish. “It just gets more complicated,” says Glatzmaier. Magnetic lines of force near Earth’s surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it’s still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms.

“If” a Pole Reversal did occur in 2012 as you can see from the above image it sends our magnetic field haywire. What effect will this have?

Is it possible the the increasing speeds of the pole shift is effecting wildlife ?

It is effecting Tampa Air Port in Florida USA (Story from 3rd Jan2011)

Scientists say the magnetic north pole is moving toward Russia and the fallout has reached — of all places — Tampa International Airport.

The airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to repaint the numeric designators at each end and change taxiway signage to account for the shift in location of the Earth’s magnetic north pole.

It started New Years Eave 31/12/2010 in Beebe Arkansas with the discovery of 5,000 blackbirds that had fallen from the sky dead. One day later, 100,000 fish suddenly died in the nearby Arkansas River, and more than 500 blackbirds turned up dead in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Dozens more were soon reported dead in Gilbertsville, Kentucky.

Then the reports of millions of dead fish and birds from around the globe started.

• In Brazil, ParanaOnline has reported 100 tons of dead catfish, croaker and sardines.
• In New Zealand hundreds of dead snapper have been found.
• Swedish officials are reporting the deaths of dozens of birds.
• The Baltimore Sun is also reporting the sudden death of 2 million fish in the Chesapeake Bay.
• Canada are scrambling to deal with the sudden death of 10′s of thousands of wild birds somewhere in the province. Officials dodged local reporters who were removed from outside the Level-4 Canada Science center.
• Italy over 1000 dead birds

Authorities have attempted to explain the massive numbers of dead birds and dead fish on natural occurrences, like fireworks and weather. However, none of the deaths, so far, have a solid scientific explanation. Officials have also been unable to explain why so many animals have died, in so many different countries, in less than a week.

The Marsili volcano, which is bursting with magma, has “fragile walls” that could collapse, Enzo Boschi told the leading daily Corriere della Sera.

“It could even happen tomorrow,” Prof Boschi, president of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said ”Our latest research shows that the volcano is not structurally solid, its walls are fragile, the magma chamber is of sizeable dimensions,” he said. ”All that tells us that the volcano is active and could begin erupting at any time.”  The event would result in “a strong tsunami that could strike the coasts of Campania, Calabria and Sicily,” Prof Boschi said.

I thought i would post this article up due to all the activity of  Eyjafjallajökull and now Costa Rica’s Arenal volcano has erupted today 25/05/2010. Then take into consideration that that we are only in the 5th month of the year and we have already had 7 major Earthquakes (7.0 and greater)  which currently is 1.4  -  7.0+ earthquakes per month.

There is a lot of underground activity this year and it has increased over the past few years, given the fragile nature of this volcano a small earthquake could set it off and southern Italy would be in a lot of trouble.

I think the next few years will be a wild ride… lets see if we make it to 2012!

Can you say Eyjafjallajökull?

Eyjafjallajökull an Iceland-de-an Volcano currently pumping plumes of ash into the atmosphere all over Iceland and Europe grounding flights, costing airliners and oil companies Millinos! has a big cousin.

MOUNT KATLA.

Mount Katla, Eyjafjallajökull big cousin has a habbit of erupting every time its little cousin does.

And while Eyjafjallajökull is a threat, it’s nothing compared to Katla, a larger and more dangerous volcano. In the past 1,100 years, every time Eyjafjallajökull has erupted, Katla has soon followed suit. “The volcanoes appear to be linked in some way, but it’s not quite clear how,” Dr. Williams-Jones said. “We don’t really know what’s down there.”

Also in the last couple of days there has been a 200% increase in activity at Mount Katla, so things are not looking good at the moment

Eyjafjallajökull in March 2006, viewed from a recreation area on the Sólheimajökull, a glacier on the Katla volcano Over the past 1,100 years, Eyjafjallajökull has erupted four times: in 920, 1612, between 1821–1823, and in 2010. Each of the first three of these incidents preceded an eruption in the nearby subglacial volcano, Katla.[9] Katla – a much more active volcano known for its powerful subglacial eruptions and its large magma chamber, much larger than that of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano system – has not shown any unusual activity, such as expansion of the crust or seismic activity. Some geophysicists in Iceland support the notion that the recent volcanic eruption at Eyjafjallajökull may trigger a second eruption at Katla, one which would cause major flooding due to melting of glacial ice.

Hopefully nothing else happen, but people in Iceland need to get out and those in neighbouring countries should move as far as possible in the opposite direction, a Volcano of this magnitude could cause a massive ash plumes blocking out the sun for days, killing livestock, plants and affecting the earths climate.
